THE GALLERY EXPERIENCE: YAY OR NAY?

IMG_0627_edited.jpg

Hi guys! After having my artwork in a gallery for the last 6 months, I wanted to share one of my favorite memories from it! So keep reading:

On the day I was in the process of taking down my paintings, a two people walked in the gallery. At this point about a third of my paintings were taken off the walls and placed crates ready to go home with me. They looked around and the man stopped to look at one of my paintings. "I really like this one." He said pointing to it showing it to the lady that was with him. "Well...if you like it that much, you should get it. Bring home a piece of Louisiana with you." she replied. That day, my artwork went home with someone who was bringing back to New York!

Worth it?

The big question...is it worth having your artwork in a gallery? One of my favorite things about being an artist is working with my cliental and learning what sparks their interest. Honestly, I think it's 100% worth having your artwork in a gallery! If given the opportunity again I would love to do it.

XOXO, Kaitlin

REAL TALK: THE ART OF LETTING GO

275.jpg

Hey y'all! Real talk...I don't post as much as I used to on the blog.

This has been such an incredible journey, and even though social platforms are where we spend a lot of our time, I'm forever grateful

for you following along, old and new, who read here. It means so much! I like the blog becuase it allows me to share a lot more and write more! My blog, like my art, has always gradually evolved with

me. I feel like you guys are truly friends and I love the community

we have created!

Living in Louisiana, you may know that it is grinding season. The beautiful green sugarcane stalks are now gone, and we transition into shorter days and crisper air. Fall is a time for harvest. To harvest what we have accomplished this year, and like the leaves, begin to let go of what we no longer need. Take this opportunity to take stock in what you have planted this year.

Looking back, in 2022 I made some big life moves!

*Went see my favorite artist “Van Gogh” exhibit

*Became a 4th Grade Teacher

*Paid cash for my new car

*Artist featured in ArtsWalk

*Booked a gallery just for me!

*20 years cancer free milestone

*first studio apartment

*commission to paint Mama Mary

In 2023, I began working my *dream job as a Secondary Art Teacher.

In September, I got off of work one day and went straight to the gallery to start setting up *my art gallery.

Before entering my art gallery, next to my handmade guest book covered with lace and burlap, I placed a story I had framed...

"Did I ever tell you about the oysters? Think about all the millions of oysters just lyin’ around the bottom of the ocean. Then one day, God comes along and He sees one and He says, “I think I’m gonna make that one different.” You know what he does? He puts a little piece of sand in it. Guess what it can do that the others can’t? It can make a beautiful pearl."

Never thinking it would actually sell, I placed beside it an "Oyster Cross" I created. The cross traveled with me through 2 Artswalks. Being with me for almost 2 years, I had grown attached to the piece of artwork I created.

This morning I recieved a voicemail from a husband excitedly explaining his interest in the "Oyster Cross" and how he wanted to purchase the cross for his wife, and she would text me her name, and a picture to show me which canvas they were enquiring about. The gallery later called me to explain the couple would be in the gallery again tomorrow.

Fall is a transitional period. Fall teaches us a great lesson – letting go. The tree's leaves eventually, one by one begin to fall. Trees do not cry over it’s fallen leaves, it knows that the leaves have served their purpose.

As we watch the leaves fall to the ground it reminds us that natures cycles’ are mirrored in our own lives. Letting go is freeing. It allows us to make space for those things that bring us health and happiness.

ANGELS AMONG US

272307392_6899129053462557_6635741470206043446_n.jpg

When I was a child, my brother was actually the artist of my family. I always admired his drawings. I hoped if I would practice, I could be as good as he was. Little did I know, I was about to be given a lot of time to focus on my skills. Art became my outlet. Never once did I think I was going to one day make a career out of a pastime. I wanted to grow up to be an Oncology Nurse at Children's Hospital.

I enrolled at Nicholls State University majoring in Education. On Orientation Day, I switched to Nursing. Half way through my college career, I changed my major for the last time. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, concentrating in Graphic Design with a Minor in Art History. I graduated at the peak of Covid, in May of 2020. Finding a job in the design field wasn't easy. A couple of my dear friends suggested substitute teaching. Taking their advice, I dove

right in and I absolutely love it! #SweetSerendipity

I feel like this is God's way of showing me, "Finish what you started." God will always put you where you're meant to be. I'm currently earning my certification to become a teacher, although I plan on continuing my work as a Freelance Graphic Designer and Artist.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Something that I am always asked is, "What is Graphic design?" Graphic Design, also known as communication design, is the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The form it takes can be physical or virtual and can include images, words, or graphics. The work can happen at any scale, from

the design of a single postage stamp to a national postal signage system.

It can be intended for a small number of people, such as a one-off or limited-edition book or exhibition design, or can be seen by millions,

as with the digital and physical content of an international organization.

Excited about my new Louisiana series! _

I love Graphic Design, but I also believe it is equally important to grow from other art medias than just using the computer. I love to make mosaics, dream catchers,

paintings and so much more!

I am always looking for new ways to express my

creative side!

WHAT BROUGHT

ME HERE?

IMG_4599.jpeg

I don’t talk about this as much as I should, so I wanted to explain why my paintings of Mary have a face that is left "unfinished". The subject of the Blessed Mother in my art has been such an incredible journey. Although it continues to evolve over time, I am forever grateful for how many of you have followed along with me and who will read this. It means so much!

My paintings, like my art, have grown with me. For those of you who may not know the story behind my paintings of Mary, I began my drawings of Her at a time in my life when I needed my faith the most. Art and my faith became my outlet. I found myself drawing the one whom I prayed to the most! From there, it evolved to paintings and so much more!

I remember the first time I painted Mary, I was so frusturated when I tried painting her face. After several attempts, I finally began to realize, "I can't paint her face." I realized that I could never capture the true essence of her beauty. We all envison the Blessed Mother to be of great beauty. I knew I could never capture Her beauty on

a canvas. Leaving Her face "unfinished" leaves for interpretation.

After all,  it's been said, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

I feel as though the people who have followed my artistic journey are truly friends.  I love the community we’ve created, so it feels right to share something so special to me with you. I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for being with me throughout this journey of life!

I can't wait to share with you this collection!

XOXO, Kaitlin

SALVATION COLLECTION

A few people have asked me if I could paint Jesus, as I did the “Mother Mary” series. I have to admit, this was a challenge for me. My favorite version of Jesus is the “Infant Jesus," or the “Child Jesus.” So naturally, those are the only two versions I’ve painted so far. I believe things happen when the time is right, and it will be in God’s time, not ours. I knew when I was ready, I was going to get the inspiration to paint this version. After all, "Patience is a virtue."

One of things I’ve been reflecting on when I pray is Jesus being both man and God. He experienced everything that we do. I’ve been reflecting on His despair and the amount of courage and love it took for Him to follow through with His crucifixion. While painting this collection, I found myself listening to the song “Oceans.” Thank you Mr. Justin Rodrigue for your gift of music. It always inspires me!
